Winthrop University gets a new club on camps; The Dandelion Project

The Dandelion Project  Tate Walden 8/30/19 Winthrop University is home to nearly 170student orgs. However most of which play off a particular interest such as; Math, Photography, archery. Because of this, students are often left out die to lack of similar interest. This inspired current Sophomore Madeline Chuvalas to found The Dandelion Project club.  Madeline is a IMC Major at Winthrop University. Her goal was to provide an outlet for students to meet new people without having a particular interest. “ Our mission is to provide a place for all students to come together and celebrate kindness, take accountability for our community.”, said Madeline. After finding four ambassadors for her club, she held her first interest meeting on September 10 th .  The Dandelion mission statement is, “A Winthrop club rooted in the belief that kind deeds spread, inclusivity creates community, and relationships make the Winthrop experience.” The name refers to the “dandeli...

Showers and sinks; the new toilets at Winthrop University

Winthrop Sanitary Issues Tate Walden 9/7/19 Fall 2019, began as usual with a new class of freshman. Class of 2023 is amongst the largest class compared to its previous years with the total of students being around 1100. With the boy to girl ratio being 60 to 40 as opposed to its usual 70 to 30, class of 2023 had high hopes. However, problems in the residence halls of the freshman class became the talk. Margret Nance is one of the two all girls Residence Halls on campus. A student found human waste in one of the shower terminals and reported it to her RA late August. The staff decided to discuss things in a floor meeting to address this situation. However, the incident spread across social media and became a campus wide joke.
